HOOVER PUBLIC SAFETY EMPLOYEES RECEIVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION

A Hoover firefighter and Hoover police officer received special recognition this week for their hard work and dedication to their profession and community. They were honored during the Shelby County Chamber's 2023 Public Safety Award Ceremony which was held Wednesday in Pelham. 

Hoover Fire Battalion Chief Nathan Hinds was awarded the 2023 Shelby County Public Safety Award for the Hoover Fire Department Hinds was recognized for his hard work during his time as Chief of Training. Hoover Fire Chief Clay Bentley points out that throughout his career, Hinds' focus has always been on making a lasting impact for the betterment of the department as a whole. 

During his tenure as Chief of Training, Hinds' accomplishments were many and included the implementation of the department’s first Officer Development Program and the New Employee Orientation. He developed the HFD's Physical Training Program, purchased standardized exercise equipment for all fire stations, standardized the equipment on all fire department apparatus as well as standardized apparatus specifications. He also put in place the departments NFPA 1410 Evolutions and taught countless classes and training exercises. 

12TH ANNUAL "TASTE OF HOOVER" TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK

For twelve years, the Taste of Hoover has celebrated the variety of culinary styles found throughout the City of Hoover and this year will be no different. The popular event will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Aldridge Gardens from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Those who attend can expect to enjoy an autumn evening strolling through the Gardens while sampling delicious dishes from some of Hoover's best restaurants, caterers, and more. The event will also   feature an assortment of beverages and soft drinks along with live entertainment.

Parking will be available at Aldridge Gardens. There will also be shuttle parking available from the Bed Bath and Beyond lot in the Riverchase Shopping Center at the intersection of Highway 31 and Lorna Road.

The cost of the event is $45 for those who are members of Aldridge Gardens and $50 for non-members. FEMA FLOOD FUNDS   ANNOUNCED FOR HOOVER RESIDENTS

FEMA makes federal funds available through the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) program to state, local and other governmental entities to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings insured under the National Flood Insurance Program. The FMA program provides financial assistance to local or state governments through the funding of projects that reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings that FEMA insures. Homeowners within the City of Hoover that have flood insurance and have suffered damage from flooding may be eligible for the FMA program. Homeowners cannot apply directly for this assistance.  The City of Hoover must submit an application to FEMA for grant funding on a homeowner’s behalf.
