Pink Shirt Day - Wednesday, February 24th
The City of Hoover will join with Hoover City Schools and the Hoover Schools Foundation to celebrate "Be Kind Week" from February 22nd - 26th, 2021. The culmination of the week will be on Wednesday, February 24th, which has been designated Pink Shirt Day. Students, school staff and community members are being asked to don a pink shirt on this day to show solidarity for the cause.
The original Pink Shirt Day event was organized by David Shepherd and Travis Price or Berwick, Nova Scotia. In 2007, the men bought and distributed fifty pink shirts throughout their community after a male ninth-grade student, Chuck McNeil, was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during the first day of school. Today, Pink Shirt Day is a global movement that brings awareness to bullying and encourages kindness.
