City of Hoover Announces Plan to Help Businesses Open Quickly and Correctly

On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced plans for the reopening of businesses across the state through her “Safer at Home” order. The order will go into effect at 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 30, 2020.  In an effort to continue assisting businesses as it has done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Hoover announces a plan to provide further resources to the businesses community to aid with reopening and returning to work quickly and correctly.
Businesses located within the municipal boundaries of the City of Hoover may call the Hoover Business Resource Hotline at (205) 739-7162 (Mon. – Fri., 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) to access the following areas of assistance:  (attached is a flier that covers all these points)

• Interpretation of the State’s reopening/return-to-work orders
• Scheduling a consultation at the physical business location to visibly interpret guidelines
• Resources for obtaining personal protective equipment (PPE).

While the City cannot provide legal guidance or de?nitive answers as to when and whether a business can reopen, City sta? members can o?er the guidance in the areas listed above.
These resources are a continuation of efforts the City of Hoover began providing in mid-March and continues to provide to the business community, including:

• Creating the Business Resources hotline and direct outreach to businesses;
• Establishing the Hoover CARES Business Advisors Coalition which provides guidance to Hoover businesses on financial matters;
• Waiving municipal sales tax late payment penalties for certain small retail businesses; taxpayers currently engaging in NAICS Sector 72 business activities (which includes restaurants and other food service providers); as well as waiving municipal late payment penalties for lodgings taxes. Late payment penalties will be waived for these taxpayers through June 1, 2020.
